Athalassa Hospital: PASYDY Raises Concerns Over Deteriorating Building Conditions

PASYDY is issuing strong warnings about the building condition of Athalassa Hospital, describing it as “miserable and undignified.” According to recent assessments, the hospital's wards have been deemed unsuitable and dangerous for patients and staff, with some even requiring demolition. The Mental Health Nursing Branch of PASYDY points out that for decades it has highlighted the deficiencies and the need for renovation of the building facilities, but these warnings have been systematically ignored. Despite the renovation of two wards eight years ago, they have now also been deemed unsuitable. PASYDY notes that, despite the delivery of three new buildings a year ago, there has been no official update or schedule for the start of the second phase of the project, which concerns the construction of the new hospital. The Branch calls on the state, the Ministry of Health and the OKYPY to take immediate action to ensure the safety and dignified care of patients, as well as the protection of staff. PASYDY warns that the situation has reached its limit and that immediate decision-making is imperative.
