UNIFE (The Association of the European Rail Industry) is calling on Cyprus to reconsider the construction of a railway network, taking advantage of the country’s Presidency of the EU Council. UNIFE believes Cyprus has the opportunity to reintroduce trains to the island after 75 years, boosting passenger and freight transport. The Ministry of Transport has requested an update of the relevant study to assess the viability of the project. Cyprus had a railway network during British rule, which was closed in 1951.
