Instructions from HIO for Cases of Repatriation of Beneficiaries to Foreign Hospitals

The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) has issued instructions for cases where GESY beneficiaries need to be repatriated to foreign hospitals for scheduled appointments. Beneficiaries are asked to immediately inform their attending Specialist Doctor within GESY, who is then obliged to submit a repatriation request to the HIO. This process is necessary to ensure timely examination of requests and avoid delays, especially in relation to emergencies requiring immediate transfer abroad. Beneficiaries must also provide their attending physician with all relevant medical reports from their previous hospital stay. The HIO emphasizes that adherence to the instructions is critical for the smooth management of cases and to avoid impacts on the provision of health services. Early notification and submission of the necessary documents allow the HIO to evaluate requests and schedule repatriations effectively. These instructions aim to improve the transparency and efficiency of the repatriation process, ensuring that GESY beneficiaries receive the necessary care abroad without affecting the management of other emergency cases.
