UN: Guterres Forms Team to Address Impacts of Crisis in Ormuz

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has formed a special Task Force to address the impacts of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, given the potential for disruptions to maritime trade and the consequences for humanitarian needs and agricultural production. The Task Force, led by Jorge Moreira da Silva, will develop technical mechanisms to address humanitarian needs, inspired by previous UN initiatives. The goal is to facilitate the trade of fertilizers and their raw materials, in close consultation with interested member states and with respect for national sovereignty. The success of the initiative could strengthen confidence in the diplomatic approach and be a step towards a political settlement. The Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Jean Arnault, will lead the political consultation.
