Construction Industry Faces Labor Shortage in Cyprus – Asylum Seekers' Work Permits Proposed

The Federation of Associations of Building Contractors of Cyprus (OSEOK) discussed the issue of labor shortages in the construction industry with the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas. OSEOK highlighted the limited influx of new workers from the domestic market and proposed issuing special work permits for asylum seekers to meet the industry's needs. Additionally, they suggested including workers from third countries in the new entrant category, expanding Standard Professional Qualifications, and assigning employee training to the KEPPO Training Center. Finally, OSEOK proposed the implementation of a grant scheme for the replacement and renewal of construction equipment.
