George Vassiliou Through the Eyes of His Minister

Former Minister of Education, Andreas Filippou, recalls the governance of George Vassiliou, characterizing it as entirely consensual. Mr. Filippou emphasized that President Vassiliou was elected without party support, which contributed to his ability to achieve unanimous decisions in the National Council. He believes that if DISY had not decided to support Glavkos Clerides in 1992, George Vassiliou would have been re-elected and might have resolved the Cyprus issue. Furthermore, he highlights that the Vassiliou government differed from previous ones, as appointments were made based on equal opportunities and not party affiliation. As an example, he mentions that he himself was appointed Minister of Education without knowing President Vassiliou before his appointment.
