Near Tragedy: Women Injured as Balcony Collapse Follows Another Building Incident in Paphos

Just one day after the collapse of three balconies in Paphos, another incident occurred with the collapse of a roof projection on a two-story building on Poseidon Avenue. Three young women were seriously injured as a result of the collapse while having lunch at a cafe on the ground floor. A 24-year-old Greek woman was rushed to the Nicosia hospital, while two British women, aged 24 and 29, were hospitalized in Paphos. The Mayor of Paphos, Phaedonas Phaedonos, stated that many buildings in the area are old and constructed with low-quality materials, increasing the risk of collapses. He also highlighted the lack of appropriate legislation to address these issues and the delays in procedures for demolishing unsuitable buildings. The Municipality proceeded to secure the remaining balconies of the building.
