PASYDY-SAK on Police Working Hours: 'We Will Approach with a Constructive Spirit'

PASYDY (Cyprus Civil Servants' Union) and the Cyprus Police Association (SAK) have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the statements made by the Chief of Police regarding police working hours. They believe these statements disregard labor institutions and undermine the agreements reached through the MEPA (Ministry of Finance). Despite their dissatisfaction, PASYDY and SAK announced that they will approach the dialogue on working hours with a constructive spirit and good faith, aiming to resolve the issues. The dialogue will take place in the House of Representatives Legal Committee on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, and in MEPA on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The two organizations emphasized the importance of respecting existing agreements and the need for a substantial discussion of labor issues. They expressed hope that the dialogue will yield the expected results. However, they warned that if the dialogue is unsuccessful and the rights of their members are not secured, they will reconsider their position and examine the possibility of taking reactive measures, always with responsibility and respect for society.
