Pittokopitis: Expansion of Desalination Plant in Kouklia Expected by Summer

The President of the Paphos Water Board, Charalambos Pittokopitis, stated that the expansion of the desalination plant in Kouklia is expected to be completed by summer, reaching at least 25,000 cubic meters of water per day. The issue was discussed at a provincial meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, who gave clear instructions for the immediate advancement of the procedures. Mr. Pittokopitis mentioned that he contacted the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, to emphasize the need for expansion, as the province of Paphos is facing increasing needs for water resources. The Minister informed him that she has already instructed the Water Development Department to prepare the necessary plans. The issue of the desalination plant in Polis Chrysochous was also discussed. A senior official from the Water Development Department is expected to visit Paphos and Polis Chrysochous to conduct on-site research and identify suitable locations for the operation of the plant, in cooperation with the Mayor. The expansion of the desalination plant in Kouklia is a critical action to ensure adequate water supply in the province of Paphos, taking into account climate change and increasing demand.
