Application for Inclusion of Xeropotamos and Diarizos Valleys in UNESCO Biosphere Reserves to be Submitted

A contract has been signed for the preparation of a dossier for the nomination of the Xeropotamos and Diarizos Valleys to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. The area to be nominated covers 510 square kilometers and includes 32 communities, as well as the abandoned Turkish Cypriot settlements of Vretsia, Maronas, Souskiou and Foinikas. The project will last 18 months and will involve intensive collaboration with government agencies, private organizations, scientific bodies and local communities. The aim is to create a comprehensive dossier that highlights the biological, ecological and cultural value of the area. A steering committee has been established to monitor the project, with representatives from various bodies.
