Flu Surge in Cyprus

The Ministry of Health emphasizes the need for protection against respiratory infections due to increased viral activity, especially seasonal flu. It reminds the public of individual protective measures, such as regular hand washing, avoiding touching the face, and limiting contact with sick individuals. Vaccination remains the best measure to prevent severe illness and death from the flu. According to the risk assessment of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the risk to the general population of the European Union and the European Economic Area is moderate. However, the risk is assessed as high for vulnerable population groups, such as the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions, pregnant women, and people living in closed facilities. The Ministry calls on the public to stay home in case of respiratory infection symptoms and to consult their personal doctor. In addition, it is recommended to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing, wear a mask in crowded conditions, and follow the instructions of the Personal Physician On-Call Services of the GHS. The Ministry of Health is closely monitoring the situation and will inform the public of any new scientific data.
