Syria and Gaza at the Center of Trump-Erdogan Conversation

A telephone conversation took place between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump, focusing on bilateral relations, the situation in Syria and Gaza, and the fight against DAESH. Erdoğan stressed the importance of unity and territorial integrity in Syria, while also referring to efforts to establish peace in Gaza. The issue of DAESH members detained in prisons in Syria was also discussed. Erdoğan thanked Trump for the invitation to participate in the Peace Council for Gaza. Turkey desires a peaceful and terrorism-free Syria, which it believes will contribute to the stability of the region. The conversation took place during a period of increased regional tension, with the situation in Syria and Gaza remaining particularly sensitive. Turkey and the US have different approaches to certain issues, but remain important allies.
