What the 'General Operational Policing Plan' Includes During the Cypriot EU Presidency

The 'General Operational Policing Plan' for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU (January – June 2026) was presented by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Konstantinos Fytiris. The plan aims to ensure the full security of all foreign dignitaries, delegations, and conference participants during the Presidency. The plan was prepared by the Cyprus Police, in collaboration with the Presidency Secretariat and other state bodies. It includes the collection and evaluation of information, risk assessment, security measures, and personal escorts. Particular emphasis is placed on the security of airports, traffic arrangements and movements, the security of accommodation and conference venues, and the management of high-level events. Minister Fytiris stressed that taking on the Presidency is a critical challenge for Cyprus, which must guarantee the safety, institutional seriousness, and international credibility of the country. The successful exercise of the Presidency is a national responsibility. The Ministry of Justice and Public Order assured that it is fully prepared to provide all necessary support to the Police, so that it can successfully meet the requirements of the Presidency. The Police has demonstrated a high level of readiness and has prepared a detailed and well-documented operational plan.
