Trump on Greenland: Their Defense Relies on Two Dog Sleds (VID)

US President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to acquire Greenland, stating he would do so “one way or another” as he fears Russia or China will take it over. He dismissed the idea of “leasing” Greenland, insisting the US needs “title.” Trump criticized Greenland’s defense, characterizing it as inadequate and stating that “it basically relies on two dog sleds.” He contrasted this with the growing military presence of Russia and China in the region. The US president argued that Greenland should seek a deal with the US, as the country does not want to see Russia or China take control. He also stated that the US is ready for war, but also for dialogue. Denmark, to which Greenland belongs, has reacted negatively to Trump’s statements, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warning that a US attack on Greenland would mean the end of NATO and the security system created after World War II. The specific patrol mentioned by Trump, known as “Sirius,” is responsible for monitoring a vast, uninhabited area of northeastern Greenland, using sleds and dogs.
