Cyprus Remains Focused on Restarting Peace Talks

Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanoli emphasized Cyprus's continued commitment to restarting peace talks to resolve the Cyprus issue during an event commemorating national anniversaries. Despite difficulties and obstacles, the Republic of Cyprus remains focused on finding a comprehensive solution, demanding freedom, security, and respect for international law. The Deputy Minister referred to the encouragement stemming from the commitment of the United Nations Secretary-General and the need to utilize every negotiating opportunity. Cyprus, due to its geopolitical position, is in a region with many opportunities but also challenges. The country leverages its European identity, diplomatic relations, and collaborations to be part of the solution and not the problem. The Deputy Minister's speech connected the present with the historical past, honoring the Greek Revolution of 1821 and the EOKA struggle of 1955, emphasizing the common struggle for freedom. Chloraka was recognized as a "heroic mother" due to its significant contribution to the liberation struggle, as it was from there that the secret arrival of arms began. The start of the EOKA struggle sparked hope for freedom throughout the Cypriot people, while the following four years were characterized by heroism and self-sacrifice. The fighters of EOKA, like the heroes of the Greek Revolution, are a source of inspiration and a "compass of values" for future generations. The Deputy Minister stressed that March 25th is not only a symbol of national rebirth but also one of the most important religious holidays, while the Revolution of 1821 was an expression of a deep need for freedom and self-determination. Hadjimanoli's speech underscored the importance of preserving historical memory and highlighting the values that led to liberation.
