2026 Vehicle License Renewals Begin: 11,000 Vehicles 'Immobilized' Due to Airbag Issues

The process of renewing vehicle licenses for 2026 began on January 7th and will continue until March 11th. Approximately 750,000 vehicles are expected to be renewed. However, around 11,000 vehicles will be unable to renew their licenses due to outstanding airbag replacements. The Department of Road Transport (DOT) has set a strict deadline and no extensions are planned. The renewal process is carried out online and requires a valid vehicle roadworthiness certificate. Owners of vehicles with pending airbag recalls must first resolve the replacement and arrange the roadworthiness certificate before being able to issue a new license.
