5-Year-Old Edward Defeats Rare Disease Thanks to Pioneering Therapy

Five-year-old Edward from England has overcome a rare genetic disease, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), thanks to a pioneering gene therapy. He was diagnosed with SMA at just two months old, a condition that causes muscle weakness and affects breathing and movement. The early administration of gene therapy, costing over 2 million euros, radically changed the course of his life. Today, Edward walks, attends school, and participates in activities that once seemed impossible. Despite challenges, such as recent hip replacements, his family remains optimistic and proud of his progress.
