A historic mansion in Nicosia, built in 1930 by the first Cypriot architect, Theodoros Fotiadis, has been renovated and reopened by bbf:. Architect Floris Panagidis, who undertook the renovation, describes the history of the building and the effort to preserve its original identity while adapting it to modern needs. The mansion, which belonged to the Pantazis family, is characterized by the “dual identity” of buildings of the time, with an imposing reception area and a more intimate space for everyday life. Fotiadis, a graduate of the Metsovio Polytechnic, brought European neoclassical influences to Cyprus, and his collaboration with the Church of Cyprus resulted in the construction of the distinctive bell tower of the Faneromeni Church. The renovation of the mansion was carried out with respect for its history, preserving many of its original elements.
