Allegations of Institutional Interference in Cypriot Judge's Election to ECHR

Lawyer Christos Clerides has submitted an intervention to the Council of Europe, representing Senior Provincial Judge Xenophon Xenophontos and European Prosecutor Konstantina Loizou, regarding allegations of institutional interference in the election of the Cypriot judge to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The intervention concerns the falsification of academic qualifications, the dominance of the executive branch in the process, the retaliatory treatment of a judicial officer, and political interventions that led to the withdrawal of a Supreme Court Judge's candidacy. Mr. Clerides also denounces arbitrary intervention by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the evaluation of resumes, creating conditions of unequal treatment.
