Androulla Vassiliou Remembers Late Husband, Former President Giorgos Vassiliou

Androulla Vassiliou, wife of the late President Giorgos Vassiliou, spoke emotionally about her husband's legacy during the public viewing. She emphasized that Giorgos Vassiliou was a founder of democracy in Cyprus and that the country would have been different if he had been elected for a second term. His greatest sorrow, she said, was the fact that he did not manage to achieve the reunification of Cyprus. She described Giorgos Vassiliou as a workaholic and dedicated man who fought to achieve his goals. Androulla Vassiliou highlighted the love and appreciation that people had for her husband, mentioning messages from citizens expressing their gratitude for the opportunities he had given them. The body of Giorgos Vassiliou lies in public viewing at the Holy Church of the Wisdom of God, while the funeral will be held at public expense on Saturday, January 17, at the same church. The day of the funeral has been declared a public holiday.
