Anti-Corruption Authority Studies Video, Declares No Parallel Investigation

The Independent Anti-Corruption Authority has studied the controversial video and announced that it cannot conduct a parallel investigation as a criminal investigation has already been launched by the Legal Service and the Police. The Authority will maintain continuous communication with the Legal Service and is willing to assist in investigating criminal aspects of lobbying legislation, provided it is the sole competent authority. The Authority's announcement came amid investigations and reactions to the video, which allegedly concerns illegal campaign financing. Many politicians and citizens had requested the Authority to launch an ex officio investigation. The Police have initiated an investigation, and the Chief informed Savvidis about its progress. President Christodoulides described the moment as critical and addressed a message to the governing coalition parties. Regarding the resignation of the Director of the President's Office, Charalambous, the President stated that it was not due to pressure but a personal decision. The Authority does not intend to make further statements.
