Archbishop Expresses Concern over Bishop Tychikos' Legal Action

The Archbishop of Cyprus expressed concern regarding Bishop Tychikos' decision to resort to legal action on ecclesiastical matters, describing it as a unprecedented and serious development inconsistent with Church practice. He also announced that he would submit a proposal to tomorrow's Holy Synod meeting to amend the Statute, so that the election of Metropolitans is done directly by the Synod itself. Regarding the Monastery of Osios Averkios, he emphasized that the Church has ended the issue with the deposition of those involved, while stressing that the State has no right to further intervene. Finally, he warned that sacraments performed by deposed clergy are invalid.
