Archbishop of Cyprus Expresses Support for Ukraine, Invitation to Kyiv Accepted

The Archbishop of Cyprus, Georgios, expressed his full support for Ukraine and its people during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Archbishopric. The Archbishop noted the similarities between the situations in Cyprus and Ukraine, as both countries face issues of occupation and the destruction of churches. President Zelenskyy warmly thanked the Archbishop for his support and the invitation to visit the Archbishopric, while extending an invitation for a visit to Kyiv. The Archbishop of Cyprus mentioned that he maintains communication with Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and that strengthening the ties between the two churches is important. He also emphasized that he had informed President Zelenskyy about the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the occupation of territories, without the Ukrainian President showing a lack of interest. Regarding the invitation to visit Kyiv, the Archbishop responded positively, stating that he would include the visit to Ukraine in his schedule of visits to Orthodox churches. He stressed that all Primates have the right to visit places of religious significance. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding, with emphasis on the need for peace and justice in Ukraine. Cyprus, due to its own experience with occupation, expresses consistent solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
