Archbishopric Considers Tychikos' Appeal to Civil Courts as Disobedience

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus considers Bishop Tychikos' appeal to civil courts as an act of disobedience. The Archbishopric's Press Spokesman, Christakis Eustathiou, stated that the Synod will convene urgently tomorrow to discuss the issue, as well as other important matters, including the situation of the monks at the Avvakoum Monastery. Tychikos is claiming the return of the Metropolis of Paphos, challenging the decision of the Holy Synod and bypassing the advice of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to abide by the Synod's decision. The Archbishopric emphasizes that there is no precedent for a civil court imposing a decision on ecclesiastical matters and that the Church of Cyprus resolves its issues internally. Tychikos has stated that he will not attend tomorrow's Synod meeting.
