Athalassa Hospital on the Brink of Collapse: Buildings Deemed Unsafe

Athalassa Hospital is in a critical state, as its buildings have been deemed unsuitable and dangerous for patients, staff, and visitors. Studies prove the need for demolition, while the second phase of the new hospital's construction, announced by the President of the Republic, has not begun a year later. The Nursing Staff Branch of PASYDY highlights the long-standing unsuitability of the facilities and the state's lack of response to repeated warnings. Even after the renovation of wards, they were deemed unsuitable after eight years, raising questions about the management of public funds. The PASYNO and PASYKI trade unions denounce that their warnings about the unsuitability of the buildings were systematically ignored, resulting in the continued operation of critical services in buildings that do not meet even the basic safety standards. They consider the continuation of operations in unsuitable buildings unacceptable and dangerous. The trade unions demand the immediate assumption of responsibility by the state, the acceleration of procedures for the construction of the second phase of the hospital, information on the results of the static study, a clear action schedule, and immediate protection measures for workers and patients.
