A series of arson attempts appear to be linked in Limassol, with police close to solving the cases. A 44-year-old Sri Lankan man was arrested in the act of trying to burn down a brewery, while previously he had placed, but failed to detonate, an explosive device at a nearby cafe. The investigation has led to testimony against the 44-year-old, as well as a 36-year-old Cypriot, who has also been arrested. Security camera footage reportedly captured both perpetrators in the two attempts. During his arrest, the 44-year-old shouted “prison” and was found in possession of gasoline and an improvised explosive device. Eyewitnesses restrained him and doused him with gasoline before the police arrived.
