Avalanches in the Alps Claim Two Lives

Two people have died and others were injured in avalanches that struck the Italian Alps. The first avalanche occurred in the Maira Valley of Piedmont, near the French border, killing one person and injuring two, one of whom is in critical condition. Strong winds hampered access to the area for helicopter rescue. Another avalanche took place near the popular ski resort of Pragelato, approximately 60 kilometers west of Turin, where a woman was rescued with serious injuries. Furthermore, a 50-year-old skier died in an avalanche in the Veneto region. Authorities have warned of the increased avalanche risk due to heavy snowfall and strong winds, urging skiers and hikers to exercise extreme caution.
