Beloved Greek Actor Christos Politis Passes Away

Actor Christos Politis has passed away at the age of 83, plunging the artistic community into mourning. Born in Heraklion, Crete in 1942, Politis excelled in theatre, cinema and television, most notably for his role in the television series "Lampsi". He began his career in theatre alongside renowned actors such as Yannis Fertis and Xenia Kalogeropoulou, and later collaborated with the National Theatre in ancient tragedies. A founding member of the Simple Theatre, Politis contributed to the decentralization of theatre, creating a space for new artists and repertoire productions. He also worked with numerous other theatre companies and actors, including Antigoni Valakou and Alekos Alexandrakis. He made his film debut in 1968 and won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 1969 for "The 17-Year-Old Girl". He returned to cinema in 2022 after many years of absence. The news of his death was announced by writer Manos Lambrakis, who posted a moving message on Facebook accompanied by Frank Sinatra's song "My Way". Christos Politis' contribution to Greek culture is invaluable and will forever remain in the public's memory.
