Celebration Day Today, January 7th

Today, January 7th, the Orthodox Church honors the Synaxis of Saint John the Forerunner and Baptist, the day after Epiphany. Those celebrating include John, Yannis, Tzannis, Tzanes, Yagos, Zanettos, Zanettos, Jean, Ioanna, Yianna, Giannoula, Zanetta, Zanetta, Zanet, as well as Prodromos and Prodromakis. The Synaxis refers to the gathering of believers to honor Saint John the Baptist, who prepared the way for the coming of Jesus Christ and baptized Him in the Jordan River. This feast commemorates his mission, his teaching of repentance, and his martyrdom. Believers participate in special hymns and services that praise the role of the Saint and the value of humility and devotion to God.
