Christodoulides – Badawi Discuss Cypriot Natural Gas Transfer

The clause regarding the channeling of 20% of natural gas production from the 'Cronus' field to Egypt is being modified, according to government sources. This modification will facilitate the process of transferring Cypriot natural gas to Egypt. This development was announced following a meeting between President Christodoulides and Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi, who was in Nicosia for the inauguration of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. Optimism was expressed that problems related to Block 12 would be overcome and production from the 'Aphrodite' field would proceed. The agreement for Block 6, signed in February 2025, is considered a milestone for the exploitation of the deposits and the development of cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt. This agreement defines the framework for cooperation between the licensed consortium (ENI/TOTAL) and Egypt for the commercialization of the natural gas deposits discovered in Block 6 ('Cronus', 'Zeus', 'Calypso').
