CIA Disputes Putin’s Claim of Drone Attack – Trump Cautious

The CIA disputes Vladimir Putin’s claim that Ukraine carried out a drone attack on his residence. According to US officials, the CIA assesses that no such attack occurred or that the presidential residence was targeted. This denial contrasts with Putin’s claim to Donald Trump, who had reported that the Russian president had personally conveyed the information to him. The CIA Director, John Ratcliffe, informed Trump that there was no evidence to support the claim. Initially, Trump expressed concern and anger, but after being briefed by the CIA, he appeared more cautious, referencing an opinion article questioning the credibility of the claim. Moscow had publicly accused Ukraine of the attack, while Kyiv had categorically denied it. The revelation of the US assessment comes amid intense diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Some European officials believe that Putin’s complaint may have been an attempt to undermine peace initiatives. The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, described the claim as a “deliberate distraction.”
