Citizen Science: Students Investigate Food Consumption in School

Citizen Science is an emerging approach to scientific research, where citizens actively participate in research activities in collaboration with scientists and educational institutions. This approach, belonging to Open Science, allows for the production of scientific knowledge with the contribution of the wider public, as seen in ornithology programs where hundreds of volunteers record data on birds. In education, Citizen Science encourages students to engage with research questions related to their daily lives, developing critical thinking and research skills. This participation can take place through lessons, independent studies, or extracurricular activities. A specific example is the RE-TASTY program, funded by the IMPETUS program, which aims to promote sustainability through youth engagement.
