Cold Snap Grips Cyprus: Heavy Snowfall and Freezing Temperatures

Cyprus is experiencing its coldest day of the winter, with snowfall in the mountains and rain in the lowlands. Snow has fallen as low as 800 meters, with snow depths exceeding 1,100 meters. In Troodos Square, the snow depth is 28 centimeters and is expected to increase. Temperatures are very low, reaching -3 degrees Celsius in Troodos Square and are expected to drop to -5 degrees Celsius overnight in the mountains. Drivers are urged to be extremely careful due to fog and ice. At the same time, January's rainfall has covered 43% of the normal precipitation, with hope for increased inflows to dams from snowmelt. However, it is emphasized that good hydrological years are becoming increasingly rare in Cyprus.
