Contacts with Australia Regarding Halloumi Shipments Amid Foot-and-Mouth Disease Measures

Following a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture, it was decided to provide 24-hour coverage of crossing points from the occupied territories to the free areas for vehicle disinfection, as a preventive measure against the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. This comes amid concerns about the potential introduction of the disease to Cyprus. In addition, communication will be intensified with the British Bases, the Police, the Army, and livestock farmers to strengthen surveillance along the Green Line and prevent illegal activities. The Director of Veterinary Services, Christodoulos Pipis, stated that efforts are being made to ensure the acceptance of halloumi shipments from Australia, despite the tightened measures. The situation is being closely monitored, and all necessary measures are being taken to protect livestock and public health in Cyprus. Cooperation between various stakeholders is considered crucial for effectively addressing the threat of foot-and-mouth disease.
