The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, stated that the EU will continue to defend its interests in transatlantic relations, following discussions on recent developments. He emphasized the need for substantial stabilization of trade relations with the US, with respect and cooperation. Mr. Costa mentioned that Europe and the US have a common interest in the security of the Arctic and the EU will play a stronger role in the region. He expressed the EU's full support for Denmark and Greenland on issues concerning them. He welcomed the announcement that no new tariffs will be imposed by the US on the EU, describing it as a positive development. However, he warned that the EU will protect its interests from any form of coercion. In addition, Mr. Costa expressed reservations about certain elements of the statute of the Peace Council for Gaza, particularly regarding its scope and compatibility with the United Nations Charter. The EU is ready to cooperate on a comprehensive peace plan, provided that the Peace Council operates as a transitional administration in accordance with the relevant UN resolution.
