Cypriot Films Garner International Recognition in 2025 with High Expectations for 2026

2025 was a successful year for Cypriot cinema, with films gaining recognition at international festivals and winning awards. The Deputy Ministry of Culture anticipates that 2026 will be even more productive. Two Cypriot productions, "Hold Onto Me" by Myrsini Aristidou and "Motherwitch" by Minos Papas, are expected to have their world premieres at the Sundance and Rotterdam festivals, respectively. Furthermore, "All That’s Left of You," a Cyprus-Germany co-production supported by the Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Cyprus Film Commission, has been shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The film, with Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem as executive producers, tells the story of a Palestinian family and has already won awards at various festivals. The short film "The Weaver" by Giorgos Tsangaris won the award for best animation at the Karama Film Festival for Human Rights in Amman. The film has also been screened at festivals in Brussels, Barcelona, and Ljubljana, and is supported by the Deputy Ministry of Culture. Finally, "Sirens" by Argyros Nikolaou continues its successful festival run, having premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. These successes highlight the growing recognition of Cypriot cinema on the international stage and create positive prospects for the future.
