Cyprus Government Records €653 Million Surplus in Q3 2025

The Statistical Service of Cyprus has announced preliminary fiscal results for the period of July-September 2025, showing a general government surplus of €653.6 million. This amount is lower compared to the surplus of €871.0 million recorded in the third quarter of 2024. Total revenue increased by 2.6% (€104.2 million) to €4,099.0 million, with the main increases in social contributions (+5.7%) and taxes on income and wealth (+0.8%). Taxes on production and imports (+0.6%) and revenue from the provision of goods and services (+6.1%) also increased. On the other hand, total expenditure increased significantly by 10.3% (€321.5 million) to €3,445.3 million. The largest increases were recorded in social benefits (+7.9%) and staff compensation (+5.6%). The capital account also increased by 84.2%, mainly due to capital investments. The fiscal results show a positive picture, but the increase in expenditure requires attention and prudent management of public resources. The government should continue to closely monitor the economic situation and take measures to ensure the long-term sustainability of public finances.
