Cyprus Health Authority and Electricity Authority Sign Agreement for Photovoltaics in Hospital Parking Lots

The Cyprus Public Health Insurance Organisation (CPHIO) and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) have signed an agreement to install photovoltaic systems in the parking lots of Limassol and Famagusta General Hospitals. This initiative is expected to generate savings of approximately one million euros per year, which will be used to improve services for patients. The agreement is part of the CPHIO's strategy for green transition, sustainable development, and reducing the energy footprint of public hospitals. Utilizing existing infrastructure, such as parking lots, enhances the energy autonomy of hospitals without additional environmental burden. The installation of photovoltaics offers multiple benefits, including the production of clean energy, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, and the creation of shaded areas for patients, visitors, and staff. It also strengthens the resilience of hospitals to increasing energy needs and cost fluctuations. The savings will be reinvested in improving healthcare services, procuring modern medical equipment, and upgrading hospital infrastructure. The CPHIO-EAC collaboration represents a significant step towards a modern, energy-efficient, and environmentally responsible public health system.
