Cyprus Parties Demand Explanations Over Video Alleging President's Funding

Political parties in Cyprus are demanding explanations from the government regarding a video that has surfaced, allegedly revealing funding for President Christodoulides that bypassed the one-million-euro limit. The President of the House of Representatives and of DISY, Annita Demetriou, stated that she expects the competent authorities to investigate the video and determine if it corresponds to reality. The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, accused the government of a delayed reaction, arguing that this does not dispute the authenticity of the claims in the video. He also highlighted potential quid pro quo for the funding, such as government favors to businessmen. DIKO also requested explanations regarding the content of the video, emphasizing the importance of transparency. EDEK, for its part, called for a full investigation using legal and scientific means, expressing reservations about the authenticity of the video and the motives behind its release. The government, according to reports, claims that the video is a product of montage and constitutes a malicious attempt to harm Cyprus and the President.
