Cyprus Presidency to Focus on Strengthening European Maritime Security Cooperation

Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas emphasized the importance of maritime security and the commitment of the Cypriot Presidency to enhance European cooperation in this area, focusing on the protection of critical maritime infrastructure and the implementation of the European Maritime Security Strategy. The upgrade of the Limassol Port – Mari Naval Base was characterized as a project of strategic importance, as it constitutes a key pillar of Cyprus' defense infrastructure. Cyprus, during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, is facing intense geopolitical shifts and recognizes security and defense as central pillars of European cohesion. Investment in Cyprus' naval infrastructure is considered an investment in stability and international legality, while also strengthening the country's ability to contribute to cooperation with EU member states and international partners.
