Cyprus Takes Over EU Council Presidency

Cyprus has officially assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for a six-month term, in an impressive ceremony held at the Thoc. The ceremony, attended by heads of state, governments, and European institutions, marks a significant moment for Cyprus and the wider region. The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, emphasized that Cyprus will act as the voice of the 27 member states and will seek to bridge the differences between them. He also highlighted the importance of Cyprus as a pillar of stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also attended the ceremony, expressing respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cyprus. The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also delivered greetings, highlighting the challenges and opportunities facing Europe. The ceremony concluded with an artistic performance entitled “MEMORY-PRESENT-AFTER,” which showcased Cypriot culture and the hope for peace and reunification.
