Cyprus to Focus on Strengthening EU-Middle East Ties During Presidency

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that Cyprus will strengthen its efforts to forge closer ties between the European Union and the countries of the Middle East during its Presidency of the Council of the EU. It will leverage its geographical location, political credibility, and knowledge of the region to promote dialogue and cooperation. President Christodoulides welcomed the holding of the EU-Jordan Summit in Amman, as well as the upcoming joint visit of the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission to Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, as steps towards a substantial upgrade of European cooperation with the region. He underscored the importance of Cyprus as a point of reference and dialogue between Europe and the Middle East, and pledged that the country would play an active and responsible role in promoting these efforts during its Presidency. The goal is to create a framework for meaningful dialogue and cooperation for stability, security, and progress in the region, for the benefit of both Europe and the Middle East.
