Cyprus Unemployment Rate Decreases in December 2025

The number of unemployed individuals in Cyprus decreased in December 2025, both on an annual and monthly basis. According to data released by the Statistical Service, the number of registered unemployed reached 11,901 at the end of December. However, seasonally adjusted figures, which reflect the unemployment trend, show a decrease to 9,916 unemployed, compared to 10,013 the previous month. The annual decrease amounts to 481 people or 3.9%. This positive development is mainly due to reductions in the construction, accommodation and food services, trade, and manufacturing sectors, as well as a smaller influx of new unemployed individuals into the labor market. A significant portion of the unemployed, specifically 4,303 people, comes from the accommodation and food services sector due to the seasonal suspension of many hotels and restaurants during the winter period. This is followed by the wholesale and retail trade sector, as well as the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. These figures indicate a general improvement in the Cypriot labor market, although the seasonality of the tourism sector significantly affects the December statistics.
