Cyprus-US Defense Cooperation Deepens: New Projects and Equipment on the Horizon

The defense cooperation between Cyprus and the United States is entering a phase of deepening, with a focus on the creation of new and the upgrading of existing military infrastructure. An American document, revealed by the newspaper Philenetheros, outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation, focusing on four key areas: defense infrastructure, defense equipment, military training, and a military cooperation program. Specifically, the upgrade of the Paphos airbase, the construction of a helipad at the Mari naval base, and the creation of a multi-purpose facility at the Larnaca KED are being promoted. In addition, a DSCA delegation is expected to visit to discuss FMS and EDA programs, while the United States has already funded infrastructure assessments and construction in Cyprus to support Cypriot programs such as 'Estia' and other national plans. This cooperation is considered important for addressing regional crises and strengthening Cyprus's security.
