Dangerous Pothole in Limassol Causes Damage to Two Vehicles

Two vehicles sustained damage late Monday (January 12, 2026) after falling into a deep pothole left open on a road in the Ismini – Vassileos Pavlou area of Limassol. Reports indicate the pothole was created by a construction crew and was not properly closed, marked, or secured before being left unattended. A citizen who reported the incident on social media stated that the opening in the road was not the result of natural erosion or accidental collapse, but rather from previous, unfinished road or utility work. After rainfall, the hazard became less visible, especially at night, increasing the risk to drivers. The citizen specifically mentioned, "The indifference of the Limassol Municipality and the Police continues, and a second car fell into the pothole… the road was closed… if someone had been riding a motorcycle or bicycle, they would have been killed…" Images from the scene show a significant opening in the asphalt, with the road surface broken and a deep cavity exposed underneath. One vehicle is seen with its front wheel trapped in the pothole, causing the car to tilt forward, while a second vehicle fell into the same opening later. The incident occurred under conditions of low visibility, without any warning signs, barriers, or cones in place. No injuries were reported.
