Dangerous Products Detected in the Cypriot Market

The Department of Labour Inspection (DLI) conducted a campaign to check the compliance of various products available in the Cypriot market with the Chemicals Legislation. The results of the laboratory analysis of the samples revealed a total of nine non-compliant products, mainly car mats, which contained Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) at concentrations higher than those specified in the legislation. PAHs are carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic substances. The DLI has already initiated the process of immediate withdrawal of the non-compliant products from the Cypriot market and has notified them to the European Safety Gate (RAPEX) system.
