“Death is Coming Soon for Zelensky”: Harsh Threats and Insults from Medvedev

Published December 30, 2025, 14:31

Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, directed harsh threats and insults towards Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, via a Telegram post. Medvedev's statements were made in response to Zelensky's Christmas message, which he interpreted as a death wish for Vladimir Putin. Medvedev accused Zelensky of wishing death not only on Putin but on all of Russia, claiming he had ordered massive attacks. He used particularly abusive language to refer to the Ukrainian leader, causing widespread outrage. Furthermore, he suggested that Zelensky's corpse be displayed in a museum in St. Petersburg, referencing historical collections of curiosities that existed in the area in the 18th century. This proposal is considered particularly shocking and revealing of the degree of hostility expressed by Medvedev. Although Russia and Ukraine are at war, there have been no attacks on the heads of state of the two countries so far. However, according to Ukrainian sources, several Russian attempts to assassinate Zelensky have been thwarted since the start of the invasion.
