Decision on Additional Witnesses in German Property Grab Trial on Jan 14

The trial of German real estate agent Eva Isabella Kiunzel, accused of usurping Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories, continued at the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia. During today's proceedings, the Prosecution attempted to justify its request to add additional witnesses, including a police officer who handled documents sent to the German authorities. The representative of the Prosecution argued that the addition of the witnesses is necessary to present all substantial evidence to the Court and that the rights of the defendant are not affected. However, defense attorney Sotiris Argyrou objected, citing “equality of arms” and arguing that the addition of witnesses is being done without revealing the substance of their testimony. Mr. Argyrou also denounced a violation of the Constitution and the Criminal Procedure Code, as the investigating authorities continued to collect evidence for a long period after the defendant's arrest. He argued that the addition of witnesses is being used to cover up gaps in the case. The Court reserved its decision on the request to add witnesses until January 14th. The defendant remains in custody on the same terms, while the defense attorney reserved his rights regarding the issue of custody.
