DISY to Decide on Nikos Sykas's Position Amidst Violence Allegations

The Political Bureau of the Democratic Rally (DISY) is convening today at 7 PM to decide on the position of MP Nikos Sykas, who is accused of physical and psychological violence against his partner. The meeting was delayed due to waiting for the Supreme Court's decision regarding the lifting of the MP's immunity, which was issued last Thursday without objection from Mr. Sykas. Reports indicate that DISY is expected to remove him from the party's ballot for the May parliamentary elections, with Andreas Michaelides and Timis Efthymiou as potential replacements. The party's executive office has already approved the proposal of the president, Annita Dimitriou, to remove Mr. Sykas. Despite the withdrawal of the complaint by his partner, the Police continue to investigate the case, examining offenses such as domestic violence, psychological violence, assault causing bodily harm, and threats.
