Duffy: The True Story of Her Abduction, For the First Time on Screen

Duffy, the Welsh singer-songwriter who rose to fame with “Mercy” in 2008 and then withdrew from the public eye, is set to tell her story in a new Disney+ documentary. The singer had withdrawn from public life after being abducted and raped in 2011. The documentary will reveal details about her abduction, as well as her life before and after the tragic event. Duffy had shared details about the abduction in a post on her website, describing how she was drugged, held captive for four weeks, and transported to a foreign country. The perpetrator had threatened her life. The singer had spoken to the police, but felt she could not trust the system. The documentary will include archival footage and interviews with Duffy’s family, friends, and collaborators. The production of the documentary has been commissioned by Hulu Original and will be directed by Gill Callan. Disney+ believes this is a “truly powerful project” and has taken on the responsibility of handling Duffy’s story with care and sensitivity.
